CHAR SIEW


Sweet, Savory, Tender, Crunchy all in one bite. Chared to perfection this Chinese BBQ pork will definitely make your favorite Chinese take out place come to you for take out.

You know those long red dark meats that you see hanging in almost all Chinese shop? The one in-between the roast chicken and crispy roast pork? That's right the yummy delicious, mouth watering, sweet and juicy BBQ pork.

You are probably here because you are a student or someone who misses home and you find the Char Siew from your local take out is dry and tough and just not what you remember it to be. This recipe will take you back home and its only made with 10 ingredients or less.

Ingredients

  1. 500g of Pork Belly

  2. 3tb of Light Soy Sauce

  3. 1tb of Dark Soy Sauce

  4. 1.5tb of Honey

  5. 1.5tb of Sugar

  6. 1te of Five Spice Powder

  7. 3 Cloves of Garlic

  8. 1te of White Pepper

  9. 1tb of Oyster Sauce

  10. 1te of Sesame Seed Oil

STEPS

  1. Using a Fork stab as many holes as possible into the pork belly.

  2. In a zip lock bag or bowl or vessel of your choice, combine the ingredients and mix to ensure the sugar is dissolved.

  3. Place the pork belly into the marinade and coat evenly. Place into a fridge to marinate over night or at least a minimum of 4 hours.

  4. Preheat your oven to 180°c. Place the marinated pork belly on a rack and into the oven with a tray below to catch any juices that fall off the meat. Cook for 30 minutes glazing the pork belly with the remaining marinate every 15 minutes, flipping once.

  5. Prepare a honey solution by mixing water and honey together in a 1 to 1 ratio.

  6. Switch your oven to grill mode, glaze the pork belly with the honey solution and let it char under the grill. Keep an eye on it to make sure it does not BURN.

  7. Once the pork belly has some nice black char marks, remove it from the oven.

  8. Chop and Enjoy served with a bowl of rice and friends.

  9. Brag to your friends, family and your local Chinese take out.

EXTRA: Using the remaining marinade and the juices collected from the oven, place it into a small sauce pan and gently simmer it till a thick sauce forms.
