Soft tender, fall apart pieces of pork belly. Swimming in a pool of spiced fragrant soy sauce. Perfectly topped on a bowl of steamed white rice or even with just a plain bao bun.
Super easy to make for a big group of people, just whip out a pot and slowly braise it till the meat falls apart. Your friends and family will sure to love this simple yet complex dish.
Ingredients
500g of Pork Belly
2 Whole Scallions
4 Cloves of Garlic
1 Cinnamon Stick
2 Star Anise
4 Bay Leaves
1.5tb of Brown Sugar
3tb of Light Soy Sauce
2te of Five Spice Powder
2tb of Shao Xing Wine
STEPS
In a Wok or pot heat up a bit of oil on medium high heat.
Once hot gently fry 2 scallions chopped into chunks, 4 crushed cloves of garlic, 1 stick of cinnamon, 2 star anise and 4 bay leaves till fragrant.
Add in 1.5tb of brown sugar and 2te of five spice powder and mix well.
Add in 2tb of SHAO XING Cooking Wine and 3tb of light soy sauce and mix well till you create this POOL of fragrant spices.
Add in your pork belly and enough water to the pot to cover the pork belly.
Bring the mixture to a boil. Cover with a lid and lower the heat to medium low and let it simmer away for a minimum of 2 hours. (The longer the better).
After a certain period of time, you should be greeted with super tender pieces of aromatic pork belly and a broth you can't give up.
Serve over a bed of freshly steamed rice, or with some freshly steamed bao buns and you got a CROWD PLEASER for any occasion.
Extra: Paired with a hard boiled egg and a side of veggies and you got yourself a meal you cannot give up.
